SPECIFICATION FOR
POLITZERIZATION APPARATUS (PRITCHARD'S PATTERN)

1. Scope — Specifies dimensional and performance requirements of Pritchard's politzerization
apparatus used by ENT surgeons.

2. Shape and Dimensions— As shown in Fig. 1.

3. Materials

vulcanized rubber compounds '.

3.2 Nose Piece — Suitable plastics.

3.3 Valve — Brass.

4. Workmanship and Finfsh

4.1 The bag shall be finished smooth from outside. There shall be no cuts on the surface of the bag.
The valve shall fit snugly into the bag. There shall be no leakage of air between the bag and the
valve when tested as given in 5.1.

4.2 Nose piece shall be push fitted into the bag. The nozzle end of the nose piece shall have a luer
taper. The surface of the nose piece shall be smooth.

5. Tests

5.1 Leakage Test — The bag shall be squeezed to remove air from it. After removing the air the
nozzle end of the nose piece and the valve shall be sealed. The bag shall remain squeezed and shall
not return to its usual inflated position.

5.2 Test for Valve — The nozzle end of the nose piece shall be suitably sealed. After sealing, the bag
shall be compressed. No air shall be forced -out of the bag.

5.3 Test for Catheter-Valve Fitting — A Eustachian catheter conforming to IS: 5338-1 969 ' Speci-
fication for Eustachian catheter' shall be fitted to the nose piece. By blocking the catheter tip and
valve suitably, the test procedure given in 5.1 shall be repeated. The bag shall not get inflated
through leakage of air between the catheter nose piece joint.

6. Marking — Each bag shall be so moulded as to carry the manufacturer's name, initials or recog-
nized trade-mark.

6.1 ISI Certification Marking — Details available from the Indian Standards Institution.

7. Packing — As agreed to between the purchaser and the supplier.
